The Team
Team name: Ethgar
Team Role: Obtaining stuff

What is your name and where do you come from?
My name is Gareth, which is Welsh and who was a brave knight of King Arthur’s round table…..until Sir Lancelot (who nicked all the fame) accidentally killed me. So in short it’s a really lucky name.
Me personally? I come from Northern Ireland which means I am experienced in rain, bad weather, cold climates, eating lots of food and dealing with serotonin deficiencies due to lack of sunshine…..in short I have all the skills that are not needed for a banger race across Africa!
What key skill do you bring to the team?
Well….I can bake chocolate cake…but then so can Pete and Jon…I can drive…but then so can Pete and Jon……I can’t speak any languages that they use in Africa (but then neither can Pete or Jay)
Whats your most innovative use of sand?
In World War 2 the Desert Rats used an innovative method to cook their meals. They made ‘desert camp stoves’ from putting sand in a tin and soaking it with petrol…….makes your tea really hot…just don’t get the proportions of sand and petrol wrong…
If you were a moose, how would you woo your mate?
At University our mutual friend Markus taught me the mating call of the Eastern Yak (quite close to the Moose don’t you think)……..however so far members of the opposite sex have wisely avoided all advances.
Whats your biggest fear?
See sand stove above……also the fact that there are thousands of unexploded mines in the Western Sahara. …. Some types jump out of the ground to eye height, and then they explode sending 100’s of metal ball bearings in a 360degree arc…nice. Maybe I won’t drive with the window down…
What is your most Distinguishing feature?
I have a very unique internal one…but you will have to ask me about it.
In a life or death situation which team member would you eat first?I don’t believe in cannibalism, (unlike the other two sinners) I fancy some grilled fish, Jesus and disciples stylee down by the sea!
Where are you driving to next?
Apparently two girls in a Fiat Panda are driving from London to the far side of Russia….if they can do it then perhaps we could go a bit further. The idea of driving from London to New York (via Russia) appeals.
Team name: Lozza
Team Role: Peace keeping

What is your name and where do you come from?
Pete, grew up on a farm in Norfolk – now living in London & working for Metronet doing engineering for the Underground.
What key skill do you bring to the team?
A healthy appreciation of dis-organisation to deal with whatever may pop up on the way?
Whats your most innovative use of sand?
An excellent exfoliator… I’ll have no need for trivial items like soap on this trip
If you were a moose, how would you woo your mate?
Ooh, those antlers would definitely feature heavily… I’d probably use them to scoop up a collection of flora/fauna to disguise myself & get close enough to the lucky lady to work my charms…
Whats your biggest fear?
Losing my Frisbee in the desert… or having to sacrifice it as some make-do car part to get to Banjul.
What is your most Distinguishing feature?
It’s been said that my forearms are particularly good specimens…
In a life or death situation which team member would you eat first?
Sorry Gareth, but you definitely have the most meat on you.
Where are you driving to next?
Drive? You’ve got to be joking! I only use public transport mate – can’t trust these dodgy automobiles y’know.
Team name: Farleyburger
Team Role: Fixing stuff

What is your name and where do you come from?
Jonathan (officially), I come from deepest darkest Somerset where the grass is green the trees grow strong and the ladies even stronger.
What key skill do you bring to the team?
I’m light-weight (sorry Gareth) and compact (sorry Pete).
Whats your most innovative use of sand?
As yet, I don’t have one but I suspect there will be plenty opportunity to learn one as time goes by.
If you were a moose, how would you woo your mate?
With a spoon.
Whats your biggest fear?
Having to sell Gareth for fuel to get home, but if it has to be done.
What is your most Distinguishing feature?
The numerous scars that tell the tale of past adventures.
In a life or death situation which team member would you eat first?
Its not looking good Gareth…
Where are you driving to next?
I like the idea of crossing the USA on a large gas-guzzling two wheeled vehicle of some kind.
